Surfing with a wish

Most kids his age don’t even think twice about what they can do on a daily basis, but for 15 year old Make-A-Wish kid Christian Arballo who dreams of becoming a professional surfer, every day is cherished.  Christian was born with severe heart defects.  He has had two heart operations to help correct the problem, and might need a third, down the road.  Even though doctors told his parents to limit his physical activity, Christian has a mind of his own.  He excels in several sports such as football, baseball, track and field and surfing.  Winning several awards in each sport, Christian was Player of the Year twice for football, while helping quarterback his team to two undefeated seasons, made the All-Stars in baseball, set school records in track and field for long jump and softball toss, and just recently won Surfer of the Year, for the second year running, as selected by his peers.      Surfing has now become Christian’s passion.  He has won several contests for his age division in both long and shortboard. He holds the title of ISF San Diego Section Longboard Champion for 2006-2007 that he earned by winning four of the six contests in the series.  He finished 8th overall for shortboard.  Christian was one of a handful of kids who competed in both divisions, which meant surfing twice the amount of heats, especially demanding for someone with his condition.        Now in high school, Christian has continued to prove he takes his surfing seriously, being the only freshmen to make the high school surf team in both long and shortboard.  He finished his first season placing 10th overall for longboard after surfing only three events out of six, and helped his team finish 2nd in shortboard and 3rd in longboard for the ISF State   Championships.  Christian also competes in the NSSA and WSA, and won his last contest.        Christian has been featured in several surf magazines, newspaper articles, and T. V. shows because of his accomplishments and never forgets to thank his sponsors who have helped him along the way.  Christian is currently sponsored by: Ocean Minded Sandals, Stay Covered Surf Accessories, Solarez Ding Repair, Turnq Surf Utility Box, WNC Surfboard Blanks, Christian Surfboards, Ten Over Longboards, Ten Over Clothing, and Sticky Bumps Surf Wax.      Christian has overcome many challenges, and serves as a positive role model to others with his condition, providing encouragement and inspiration to work toward their own individual accomplishments.  He is a true champion in sports and life!      For the last year Christian has also been working on a film about surfing called Quiver.  Quiver will tell the story of what Christian has gone through and his passion and love of surfing.  The film also features several pro surfers who share Christian’s passion, and will travel with him to different locations to surf.  Quiver will also help benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, by giving a percentage of the film’s profits to Make-A-Wish in Christian’s name.  At this time, the film is two-thirds finished, but funds are needed to complete the project.  Several of Christian’s surf sponsors have stepped up to help, but totals still fall short.  This would be a great opportunity for Volvo dealers to get involved with a worthy cause and help Make-A-Wish come true.  If you would like to sponsor this project and help Christian’s wish, you may contact:  Chris Arballo at (760) 473-7075 or email: tenover@cox.net for more information.     If you want to learn more about Christian or just keep updated on his progress you can go to www.tenoverlongboards.com and check out the team rider news.
