A Day Without a Bag — December 20th
12/06/2007
Alert Overview -- LA COUNTY
A Day Without a Bag — December 20th

Location: The Grove (tentatively)
Time: 8am - ?

Our holiday gift to the environment! Join thousands of shoppers in L.A. County in giving up disposable bags in favor of reusable totes for 24 hours.

Los Angeles County residents use 6 billion plastic bags each year and recycle only 5% of that total. Instead, they become part of the plastic-dominated litter stream, putting added pressure on scarce landfill, fouling our public spaces, degrading already weakened watersheds and threatening marine life.

Help reduce plastic bag usage this holiday season — and year-round — with the A Day Without a Bag action plan!

1. Get a Free Reusable Bag
Join us on Thursday, December 20th, at a participating retail location (see sidebar at right) to receive a free reusable bag. These locations will also be providing education about reducing plastic bag consumption and adopting sustainable practices year-round. If you miss the free giveaway, you can purchase reusable bags online (see \"Buy Reusable Bags\" sidebar at right).

2. BYOB
Show your support for A Day Without a Bag by shopping exclusively with reusable totes on December 20th. Then, make it a habit to to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) when shopping anywhere, anytime! See \"Buy Reusable Bags\" sidebar at right to purchase bags online.

3. Sign the Bag Ban Petition
Make everyday A Day Without a Bag. Join Heal the Bay and other concerned citizens by signing the petition urging the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to consider a ban on plastic carryout bags.
