Hypermilers Go to Extremes to Save Gas
07/21/2008
Just a few weeks ago I wrote about how hypermiling and conscious driving can save a serious amount of gas. Since then I've been digging around on YouTube to check out just what hypermilers get up to in their quest for ultra-high MPGs. Check out this guy, John Engles, who's done everything from replacing his hubcaps with slick, aerodynamic alternatives, to installing an internal antenna for his radio to reduce drag. Of course it's not all about modifying your car - if we all just stuck to the speed limit, kept our tires inflated, tried to watch ahead for red lights and other obstructions, and emptied our trunk of those rarely-used golf clubs, my bet is we'd save a ton of gas. Now if we also took up biking, car sharing, or just stayed at home we'd do even better...
