I've got to say it - I have fallen in love with my reel mower. OK - I wouldn't go using it on really long grass (I have a gas-powered weed-whacker for the heavy stuff), but mowing the lawn to the faint whirr of a spinning blade sure beats choking on gas fumes. And because there's no motor on it, it's actually pretty easy to manouver.

I don't think mowing our lawn took any longer than with a regular mower, and with gas prices being what they are, I'm thinking this might have been an excellent investment. Having now spoken to a friend who has also taken the plunge and bought a human-powered mower, they did say you need to stay ontop of it - if you let the grass grow too tall it becomes a pretty major chore. But given it's so easy, and so much more pleasant, than the old-fashioned way (weird how gas is all of a sudden old fashioned, huh?), I think I';ll be happy to take my new mower for a spin (pun intended) most weekends.
