Wheel Alignment

Tire Guy

Misalignment of wheels in the front or rear can cause uneven and rapid treadwear and should be corrected by a tire dealer. Front-wheel-drive vehicles, and those with independent rear suspension, require alignment of all four wheels.

Have your alignment checked periodically as specified by the vehicles' owners manual or whenever you have an indication of trouble such as "pulling" or vibration.

Also have your tire balance checked periodically. An unbalanced tire and wheel assembly may result in irregular wear.

VEHICLE WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Wheel alignment specifications are determined by the auto maker to produce driving stability, provide maximum tyre life and ensure safely. Major factors of alignment pertaining to tyres are described as following:

Toe (toe-in, toe-out):
The difference in distance between the_front.of the-tyres on the same axle and the rear of those same tyres. To obtain maximum tyre life of Yokohama HPTs, set toe-in as close as possible to zero, keeping within auto manufacturer's specifications.

Caster:

The angle between a vertical line and the steering axis when viewed from the side, measured in degrees and minutes. Caster should be set to either the positive, or minimum negative, setting specified by the ai manufacturer, maintaining given tolerances.

Misalignment of the front or rear results in uneven and rapid tread wear.

Camber:
The measure of the tilt of the top of a wheel or tyre either toward the vehicle or away from it. In positive camber, the tyre tilts away from the vehicle; in negative camber the tyre tilts toward it. Camber should be set according to auto manufacturer's specifications,
